Set up referring to the government law No.1/32 of 26 January1972, Burundi National Tourism Office is a public establishment of an administrative nature endowed with a legal status, financial autonomy and patrimony. Burundi National Tourism Office is a department of the ministry of Trade, Industry, Posts and Tourism.

The Tourism Office is in charge of: promoting Burundi tourism in its all aspects, promoting the coordination of divers organs and companies interested in tourism development, going through and directing different initiatives concerning community facilities in collaboration with semi-public and public departments, dealing with reception services with possibility to delegate the agencies playing that role in the area and getting into contact with foreign and international organizations.

The government law clarifies that Burundi National Tourism Office can be in charge of tourist and sports facilities, arrangement of feasts, cultural and artistic festivals.
